Asbestos Removal Central Coast
More than 10 square metres of bonded (non-friable) asbestos, or any amount of friable asbestos, must be removed by someone SafeWork NSW has licensed. If you are not sure it is asbestos, only a sample tested at a NATA-accredited laboratory settles it. If you need to dispose of it, Central Coast Council takes asbestos at only two facilities, Buttonderry and Woy Woy, and only from a Central Coast address.

Four facts that change the job
- Over 10 m² needs a licence SafeWork NSW licenses the removal of any amount of friable asbestos and of more than 10 square metres of bonded asbestos. Below that area NSW says a homeowner may remove bonded asbestos, though it strongly recommends a licensed removalist.
- Test before you touch You cannot identify asbestos by looking at it: only a sample tested at a NATA-accredited laboratory confirms it. The NSW Government says a building from before 1990 probably has some.
- Only two tips take it Central Coast Council takes asbestos at its Buttonderry and Woy Woy facilities only, from Central Coast addresses only, booked at least 24 hours ahead and double-wrapped to its own rules.
- Neighbours hear first For licensed work the removalist must notify SafeWork NSW at least five calendar days ahead and give notice to the neighbours.

Asbestos Removal across Central Coast
One council covers the whole Central Coast, and it publishes the rules that matter after the removal: Buttonderry at Jilliby and Woy Woy on Nagari Road are the only Council facilities that take asbestos, every load must be booked at least 24 hours ahead, and a load that is not double-wrapped in plastic at least 200 microns thick can be refused. Council's own policy also sets conditions on a development application or a complying development certificate wherever asbestos is suspected.
